Role/Team Summary: (Outline of team and role responsibilities)
Risk Technology provides global IT solutions to both Market Risk and Credit Risk within RBS Global Banking & Markets. This includes support of existing systems, small enhancements to those systems as well as larger-scale projects.
This role is to provide analysis, design, development and implementation of new software and enhancements.
The role reports to a Team Lead/Project Manager.
Deliverables: (Criteria/results by which success can be measured)
As directed by Project Manager, contribute to or lead software development lifecycle management, requirements definition/analysis and feasibility analysis.
Provide significant input to technical design of new solutions applying current software design techniques.
Decompose design into development plan tasks and provide accurate estimation of effort.
Own the specific parts of a solution from design and development through to test and implementation.
Participate in recruitment activity – define new skill requirements and assess potential candidate fit.
Mentor and develop the technical skills of others.
Essential Experience: (Must have skills)
Educational Qualification
A qualification from an Engineering College, MCA (honours/ 1st class)
Technical knowledge
Sound knowledge of modern software architectures and development techniques.
Application of structured software development techniques including requirements analysis, functional decomposition, modelling, prototyping, functional design, estimating and testing.
Proven track record of having delivered quality software solutions and resolving complex problems.
3+ years of proven hands-on software/database development experience using:
• Core Java
• Sybase or Oracle
Supplementary Experience: (Useful additional skills)
Business Knowledge
Experience of Credit or Market Risk within a major investment bank.
Familiarity with front-to-back office investment banking business functions and investment banking products.
Technical Knowledge
Java JDK 1.5, Swing, Spring, Hibernate, CVS or similar
Cruise Control, Coherence, DataSynapse GRID, Knowledge/experience of O/R mapping and caching products beneficial.

Sybase (both client library and basic SQL) including design and building new tables, triggers and stored procedures, etc. A working knowledge of Solaris9 and/or Linux including build process and code management etc. Knowledge of n-tier systems is essential, as is an in-depth understanding of multithreading techniques in object oriented programming.
Good communication and writing skills: being able to aim technical discussions at the right audience and versatile enough to ‘brainstorm’ around topics.
Desired Skills (Technical / Domain / Managerial/ Language skills)
Linux, Java (1.4.x and Java6 and above): mostly server-side but also client-side would be of benefit, GNU products including GNU CVS, gcc, g++. Web services (mostly Apache Tomcat related but could vary).
